"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."Ephesians 2:8-10
Mike Shorey has served as the Youth Director of First Baptist Church since the fall of 2008. He is originally from New Hampshire, but now lives in Brunwsick with his wife Megan. Both Mike and Megan have spent a number of years working with Christian camp ministries in Maine, and continue to share a passion for youth ministry.
Mike was raised in a Christian family and was greatly influenced by his grandparents who were missionaries in Japan. Although, having this strong influence from birth, he struggled to truly surrender to Christ. He found himself battling with the idea that he could be good enough for God into his teen years. However by God’s grace, as a teenager he broke down when he realized his inability to beat sin by his own efforts. Over the last several years God has continually reminded him that he is far worse than he could ever imagine, yet through Christ, he is loved far more than he could ever hope for.
In the spring of 2008, Mike graduated from New England Bible College, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Christian Ministries. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at New England Bible College, where he has made lasting connections with people who continue to be valuable resources as mentors and brothers in Christ.
A couple of activities that Mike enjoys are sports and music. These have always been big interests, as he grew up playing sports with his two brothers. He loves to get out and play sports as often as he can! He is a lifelong fan of both the Red Sox and the Patriots. He has also played the guitar for several years and finds it to be a great way to unwind and connect with some of the youth in the church.
In Ministry, Mike's passion is to see and help youth come to understand the glory and greatness of God. He also desires that they would love God's Word and live cross-centered lives. At the heart of it all he desires to see teens passionately love and follow Jesus.
